C-D Class: Μελετήσαμε το "The emperor's new clothes", συζήτησαμε και γράψαμε εργασίες ...:

The emperor's new clothes

The  emperor's  new clothes by Hans Christian Andersen even if it was written more than 175 years ago is still relevant today because it is a very important fairy tale with a very big meaning behind. It teaches the kids or even grown ups to support their beliefs and opinions and to not be afraid to speak because they think that their opinions can be wrong. Every opinion is special and must be heard.

                                                                                                                                       By Angelina

I agree with what Jonathan Swift said, because there are a lot of people, that flatter you, but most of them are lying. It's just like in "The emperor's new clothes" story. All of the people said that they saw the clothes with  beautiful colours and patterns, but nobody  could really see it.

I think that the story is still relevant because it seems like what is happening nowadays. There are too many people that are lying because they are afraid that if they tell the truth it will be bad for their jobs or their lives. For example in the story everyone was afraid to tell the truth, that they don't see anything, so nobody could think that they are fools or they are unfit for their jobs.

                                                                                                                                  By Despina

birds think
let's open our wings

When it's summer
the drummer
drums every where

When it's autumn and it rains
goes fast the train.

In the winter it snows,
and the wind blows.

Extreme cooking, by Alexander

I believe that I could do cooking as extreme sport. I would do extreme cooking on the top of a mountain , on a boat in the middle of the sea and even inside a submarine. Of course, I would need a pat, a knife, a spoon, a fork and a cooker together with the ingredients.

Mop Hockey, by John

In 19/02/2017, John Xydonas discovered Mop Hockey, one of the most popular games. There are three players in every team. The stadium is like a room but with two goalposts. You have to get the ball into the goalpost while you mop the floor. The winner is the one who will get the ball into the goalpost and mop the floor at the same time.

Popular teams:  Atletico Mop, Real Mop, R.M.T (Real Team Moto)

A picture from the past , by Stathis

Yesterday, I found a picture of my grandfather when he was 30 years old. I learnt a lot  about the past from this photograph. In the picture, my grandfather was in war, which is a very bad thing . I can touch his gun, I can hear the sound of a bullet when he fired up. That’s terrible.  My grandfather was a hero in my opinion,  he saved millions of lives. I hope he can see me now.

A picture from the past , by John

Yesterday, I found a picture of my grandfather when he was only 25 years old. In the picture he stood in front of the army building of Thessaloniki. He wore an army uniform. I don’t understand the color of the uniform because the picture is black and white. Because of this picture, I learned that my grandfather had black short hair and he didn’t have a beard or a moustache. It is funny to see my grandfather when he was young.

Don't Miss the Patra's Carnival, by Helen

The Carnival is just round the corner! So, in order to signal the beginning of the Carnival time, one of our B Senior students, Helen, wrote a few things about the Greek customs and traditions associated with this  celebration.

Every year in Patra there is a carnival. It's the greatest and the most famous carnival in Greece. People of every age group take part in the carnival events. There are carnival balls, masqued balls and parties at home, in neighbourhoods, clubs, cafeterias and restaurants.

The most spectacular event is the Ground Parade. It begins at around 2 pm on the Sunday before Clean Monday with many satirical floats, each one with a specific theme. The costumes are designed to suit each theme. Around 33-4.000 people take part in the parade and dance to the rhythm of the music played by the band.

The Missing Orange Juice, by Vasiliki

After reading a poem about an orange juice thief (by British Council), students were asked to write the same story but this time with a different ending. We also discussed ways of punishing offenders; we must admit that all the students proved to be very resourceful.. and perfectly lawful, if we might add!

Read Vasiliki's story below to get an idea of what we are talking about! As seen from her own version of the story...

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays we get a carton of orange juice and a pint of milk, but one Monday morning I went out and I saw that my orange juice wasn't there. It was only the milk. I thought the milkman's forgotten to deliver the orange juice.

On Tuesday, I got up the same time as the milkman comes to our house. When he came I told him:
"Hey, why did you forget to deliver the orange juice yesterday?"
"I delivered it, sir" he said.
"No, you didn't!"
"I remember that I delivered it" he said again.
"It wasn't there when I came to take it."
So I got another one off him.

On Wednesday, same thing again. There was no orange juice, only a pint of milk. On Thursday, I was waiting for the milkman but when he came he told me that he delivered the orange juice. So I started thinking that someone is nicking my sweet and beautiful orange juice. So I made a plan to catch the thief!

I was waiting for hours when I saw the milkman run to my house really fast! He was ready to take my orange juice when at the same time I jumped out and I told him "So you're the thief! I'll call the police!"
"Please, not the police! Not again! I have been to prison four times for the same reason!" he said .
"It's too late now, orange juice thief!" I said.

An Unusual Building I Like, by Melina

Our classroom is populated with many talented young artists and writers, it seems. After we had come across a couple of passages about some very bizarre buildings from around the world, Melina, an A Senior student, wrote a letter to one of her friends describing a very unusual building she knew of - an apple house! Read on and tell us in the comments below if you would like to live in such a house.

Hi Angela,

I have to write to you about this! In Germany, there is a very unusual home. It is a house in the shape of an apple. Yes, an apple! The apple house is a three-storey house. It has two bedrooms. There is also a kitchen and a living room, and three bathrooms.

Outside, there is a beautiful garden with many flowers. The house is made of wood and metal. It isn't a home any more. It is a restaurant. You can buy any food now. You should see it. It is very strange, but I like it.

Bye,
Melina

My Phobia of the Dark, by Jim

I have a phobia and it is the phobia of the dark.

Sometimes when I'm in the dark I imagine monsters under my bed or I hear scary noises. Yes, I know. This is not true, but sometimes I feel it's true. On the other hand, in our mind we do whatever we want. We can fly or lift a building. But I have a big problem. A huge problem, because I cannot sleep or go out at night, it looks like I'm in jail. I must beat my phobia no matter what!

The next day I go to the computer and all day long I watch scary films but then I imagine all the monsters in the film. I go to my room and close the doors and the windows. But the monsters open the door and come inside my bedroom. I say "please, don't eat me." But the monsters don't listen to me. I freeze for two seconds and then I say: you are all figments of my imagination. "Go away or I'm going to smack you down. All the monsters go away and now I can sleep without monsters, zombies or ghosts. Because all this is in my imagination.

The Broken Mirror, by Marios

One day when Mr. LOL woke up and went to comb his hair, the mirror fell down and broke. Mr. LOL thought that he was going to have bad luck for seven years. After that, he went out for a walk. Suddenly, he stumbled on a rope and fell down. All the people laughed at him. He woke up and continued his walk to his best friend. He knocked on the door. When he opened the door a bucket with water landed on his head. After that, he got back to his home, but he remembered that it was the 1st of April. And finally it wasn't the broken mirror to blame.

The Broken Mirror, by John

Mr. Badluck was a man who had bad luck everyday. One day he broke a silver mirror. On Friday 13th, he went to a casino and something strange happened to him. He won a bet. The other day he won the lottery and then he changed his name to "Mr. Goodluck". When he did that, he lost a bet, a lottery and broke another mirror. Sometimes he won some games and sometimes he lost. He became normal. The other day he won three lotteries and became rich. He also bought a black cat. The cat brought him bad and good luck and finally it wasn't the broken mirror to blame.

Do you believe in superstitions? We don't!

A Frightening Experience, by Mary

It was a cold, snowy February day in Halandri. My friends and I were celebrating my birthday in my house.

As we were dancing, two robbers broke into my house and kidnapped us. They were wearing black clothes and holding guns.

Guess what! The two robbers were two of my friends, Jason and Ellie. When they took off their masks, we all burst into laughter. I felt so silly!

Gulliver's Travels, by Jason

After reading Gulliver's Travels on the BBC website, pupils were asked to summarise the episodes they had seen. Below is just a sample of Jason's amazing work.

Episode 1

Doctor Gulliver was a healthy man that lived in London with his wife and their two children. One day a friend knocks on the door asking Gulliver if he needs a job for a lot of money. Gulliver and his family were really poor, so he answered "yes". His friend explained to him that they will go on a trip by ship and that the journey will be long.

The next day Doctor Gulliver and the others started their journey. In the middle of the journey, they were somewhere near the East Indies when a terrible storm hit! The crew jumped in boats, but a big wave smashed them into a rock.

Episode 2

Gulliver wakes up on an island. A really small man with a bow and arrow is in front of him. Then a lot of little men like the one in front of Gulliver come out of their hiding spots. They were talking in a strange language. Gulliver showed them his mouth to tell them to bring food. In a little bit they brought him a lot of fruit. He ate every single one! But they had put a sleeping potion in the food, so Gulliver fell asleep. When Gulliver woke up, he was in a temple tied up.

To be continued...
